Has there been any players you didn't expect to perform as well as they have in the playoffs?

I have a huge hatred for Jordan Staal, and will think he’s overrated no matter what, but he has shown some light in this postseason enough for me to give him kudos. Chris Osgood has been lights out. Doug Helm and Tyler Kennedy have been little speedsters with pure grit. Dan Cleary. Brent Seabrook. Marc Savard. Lucic. There are sooo many out there.
Haha @ Bob.

Yes. I think he’s well overrated. Just imagine the team had they picked Toews instead? Staal was never chosen to be this "great defensive forward". He was picked for his size and scoring ability, and he rarely uses or does either. You’re right. He’s a big dumb oaf who reminds me of Lurch from the Addams Family. When he did an interview after the game, he took out his mouthpiece, let out a groan, and said "Youuu rraaanngg?"

Darren Helm, definitely. He was called up from the minors for last year’s playoffs, helped them win the Cup, and then sent down again in the offseason. He was called up again this year for the playoffs, and just look at him go! The guy has been a stud! He’s got 6 goals in the playoffs, and is constantly giving his all. If the Wings win on Friday, it will be his second Cup win without officially playing his rookie season.

I started my man crush on savard at the all star game when they gave him a mic i like his additude but he did play really in playoffs.

Avery was able to show he could be more then a jester.

Osgood (though i hate him) i will admit looks like a better goalie then 2008 osgood due to not having the total shut down D in front of him

I would say fronzen but showed he can dazzel in regular season

Jussi Jokinen Showed that he could be a valuable clutch player and not just a shoot out freak

Jordan Staal, Dan Cleary, Darren Helm (never even heard of him before the playoffs), Claude Giroux (Flyers rookie, eliminated in the first round, but he scored 5 points in 6 games as a rookie, including one shorthanded point).

I have never understood your distaste for Staal HOWEVER I have been noticing alot that he….not sure how I put it, he’s a good hockey player and does alot of things right but he is kind of a BIG OAF. Just seems like a big dummy (LOL). Funny how now that you start giving him credit that I start to see what you meant in the first place.

Helm and Cleary have impressed! Cooke has disappointed! Hossa has been pretty quiet…Datsyuk has underperformed which is common for him.

You are right, there are so many out there.

Darren Helm. He’s good but he has been phenomenal in the play offs. I expected Ozzie to perform as he has. Dan Cleary is always good in the play offs. I have been disappointed in Hossa and while Datsyuk hasn’t scored he has been terrific defensively since he came back from the injury..

Malkin is excellent but he has been double excellent in the play offs except for the stupid penalties. I hope he does some of those Friday. :o )

    Jordan Staal,

Malkin has stepped it up alot. Kinda suprised at Fleury.

    Scuderi was awesome game 6.

    Voslov (sp) was pretty incredible.

I usually expect Osgood to be adequate, but he has been excellent.
Cleary, Abdelkader are also nice surprises.
Hossa has been a disappointment overall. I’m still hoping that he scores the game winning goal Friday night.

    Tyler Kennedy.

5 Goals this post-season…2 this Stanley Cup Final.

Had none what so ever last year in the playoffs.
