I am being offered a 3 for 3 deal:

I give away: Ian Kinsler, Garrett Atkins, and Carlos Gomez

I acquire: B.J. Upton, Chris Carpenter, and Ricky Nolasco

I have Dan Uggla to replace Ian Kinsler as my starting second baseman. The only problem is that I will no longer have a backup second baseman. i dont need a backup, but since uggla is such a streaky player, i could either pickup sean rodriguez or trade for a backup 2B.

Thoughts on the 2010 Arizona Diamondbacks?

Soon the Arizona Diamondbacks will probably be the fifth team in baseball to be officially taken out of 2010 playoff contention (their "elimination number" is 11). They currently have the second-worst record in the National League with 53-79 (.402), ahead of only the Pittsburgh Pirates.

The Arizona Diamondbacks are historically an average team. Since starting in 1998, the franchise has a roughly even record of 1,023 wins and 1,053 losses. The Diamondbacks have made it to the playoffs 4 times, and won the World Series in 2001, after defeating the New York Yankees in 7 games. They’ve had winning seasons as recently as 2007 and 2008.

Why have the Yankees not retired Dave Winfield's Number 31?

With September call-ups in effect, Michael Dunn makes his major league debut pitching for the Yankees. He is wearing Number 31. This number was worn by Dave Winfield, a Hall-of-Famer.

I didn’t mind it so much when Tim Raines wore it, because he should also be in the Hall. But the Yankees have also dished out 31 to Brian Dorsett, Hensley Meulens, Mike Humphreys, Bob Wickman, a washed-up Frank Tanana, Xavier Hernandez, Brian Boehringer, Dan Naulty, Lance Johnson, Ben Ford, Glenallen Hill, Steve Karsay, Jason Anderson, Aaron Small, Jason Veras, Edwar Ramirez, Josh Phelps and… Ian Kennedy — who was no Jack Kennedy and was no Ron Guidry, either.

I hope Michael Dunn turns out to be a terrific big-league pitcher, but come on! They gave Winfield a Dave Winfield Day, they made him one of the on-field honorees at the old Stadium’s closing, and the YES Network gave him a "Yankeeography." So why not give this HOFer a Monument Park plaque and retire his number?

They did it for Don Mattingly, and he won nothing for them and is never going to get into the Hall of Fame without a ticket. Winfield at least won a Pennant and was an obvious Cooperstowner all the way. So why not the honor?

It’s not about race, as black Yankees Reggie Jackson and Elston Howard have been honored. It’s not about his personality: Everybody likes Dave, and you can’t say that about, say, Monument Park honoree Billy Martin. So why is it?

Fantasy Baseball H2H Point League Advice?

I am in a H2H league, and am playing in the semi finals next week.I am just wondering who if anyone I should drop, since next week is must win, or otherwise I am playing for 3rd the following week.If so why should I drop them and who should I pick up for final 2 weeks of H2H POINTS LEAGUE and why?

I usually try and get the SP’s in there when they have a game, and sub in RP’s in the open spots when none do.Is there any of the below I should sit or definately play next week because of favorable matchups?Holds do count for RP.

i’m a yankees fan, but after 2 years of poor decision making, i think brian cashman and joe girardi should be fired now. I’ve said from the start Yankees would be better off with trading for Santana, signing Manny and Dunn on shorter, cheaper contracts than landing Sabathia, Texeira, and Burnett. Santana, Manny, and Dunn have long track records of success while Sabathia (whose best season in the AL is around the same as Santana’s worst), Texeira (probably not even a top 5 first baseman in the league), and Burnett (fragile, inconsistent) all have major question marks on their resumes.

In 2008, Torre was fired. Cashman refused to trade Melky Cabrera and Phil Hughes for the best pitcher in baseball, Johan Santana (who since becoming a starter, has a sub 3.00 era every year except 2007) , and handed rotation spots to untested rookies Hughes and Ian Kennedy (and inserted rookie Joba Chamberlain in midseason due to innings count). Melky Cabrera become the starting centerfielder. The plan backfired as Kennedy, Hughes, and Cabrera flopped. Hughes, Jorge Posada, and Chien-Ming Wang got injured. The Yankees had to turn to journeymen like Sidney Ponson, Darrell Rasner, Dan Giese, and Jose Molina. Despite the fact that Yankees had the highest payroll (again) and career season from Mike Mussina (who retired this year), they didn’t make the playoffs.

In the offseason, Cashman tried to retool the rotation. He signed CC Sabathia to a record contract for pitcher (if you look at his career stats, he is nothing compare to Santana or even Roy Oswalt. Lowest ERA per season in the AL was 3.21, which is barely better than Santana’s worst season). Injury-prone strikeout machine AJ Burnett was also signed to a lucrative 5 year contract, which is odd considering his injury history, inconsistency, and not-so-stellar ERA.
The final blow came when Mark Texeira was signed to a 8 year contract. Texeira plays good 1st base defense, has good (not great) power, and good plate discipline. But 1st base is a power position (not to mention Cashman already traded for Nick Swisher earlier), Texeira just doesn’t seem like an impact slugger that inspires fear. (his effect with the braves and angels pennant race weren’t felt) Cashman also made the questionable decision to hand the center field job to untested rookie Brett Gardner.

As of right now, Texeira is hitting .182 with 3 homers. Sabathia is 1-3, 4.85 ERA. Burnett has a 5.40 ERA. Brett Gardner is hitting .222.

The players Yankees could’ve had for much cheaper, shorter contracts are doing much better. Manny Ramirez is hitting .349, .500 OBP, 5 homers. Adam Dunn is hitting .299, .460 OBP, 7 homers, despite no protection from the weak Naitonals lineup. Santana (3-1) has a 1.10 ERA, 44 K’s in 32 innings despite limited run support.

a. They could easily find a cheaper alternative this offseason (Derek Lowe? Brad Penny? Braden Looper? I still think Lowe is a lot better than Burnett)
b. Sign Pedro Martinez, Paul Byrd, or one of the free agent as a stopgap
c. Sign Ben Sheets when he recovers. People in triple-a like Kennedy, Brett Tomko, Alfredo Aceves, Kei Igawa can also compete in spring traning with vets such as Kenny Rogers, Jon Lieber, Orlando Hernandez for the 5th spot.
The relievers are, by nature, very volatile. A lot of hits and misses and one year wonders. The current crops in the Yankees bullpen were all in triple-a a year ago, save for Rivera, Brian Bruney, and Damaso Marte. I think they should bring Tomko/Kennedy up as the long man like the Dodgers did last year with Chan Ho Park and this year with Jeff Weaver/Eric Milton/Shawn Estes.

Is Brian Cashman an idiot? He’s wasting Steinbrenner’s resources. He should be fired.

Can you read my summary of Forrest Gump and tell me what I can do to improve it?

Forrest Gump is the tale of a young boy, who, even though he has much mental and physical incapability’s succeeds in life. It begins with him sitting at a bus stop and a feather floating down and Forrest putting the feather into his favourite book. A woman sits down at the bench and he begins to go into the story of his life, beginning with, “Momma always said life was like a box of chocolates, you’ll never know what you’ll get.”
The story then goes back in time to when Forrest was younger, in a doctor’s office with him getting leg braces. He called them his magic shoes. Forrest and his mom lived in a big house all to themselves and she would let the extra rooms out to people traveling through town.

As a child Forrest was considered special and he was supposed to go to a special school but his mom insisted he go to a regular school even with his IQ being 75. Forrest’s dad left before he was born and his mom said that he went on a vacation, and that a vacation is where you leave somewhere and don’t come back.

Forrest meets Jenny when he starts school and this is a key point in the movie when they become friends. She is the first person to actually talk to him besides his own mother. She teaches him how to read and he teaches her how to swing, she was his only friend.

When Forrest and Jenny are walking home together, some little boys throw rocks at Forrest and he begins to run after Jenny tells him so. As he is running his leg braces fall off and that is when he grows to love running, running whenever he can. This is a turning point and his ability to run at lightening speed gets him into college on a football scholarship.

While attending the University of Alabama a controversy arises where the governor, George Wallace refuses to admit two black students; Jimmy Hood and Vivian Malone. But President Kennedy orders military help and the two are signed up for summer classes. Later George Wallace runs for President and he is shot, but does not die.

Forrest is put on the All-American football team and he meets President Kennedy, which is historically untrue. Awhile after meeting President Kennedy, he is assassinated by Lee Harvey Oswald and a short time after that President Kennedy’s brother is also killed.

But after five years of playing football at the University of Alabama, Forrest gets his college degree and he is invited to join the army and he does. While in the army Forrest meets Bubba, who is a black man from the south and they become good friends, they are both sent to fight in Vietnam. There they meet Lieutenant Danforth, a short white man and they are in the 14th platoon. While in Vietnam, Forrest got to see a lot of the countryside, they were always on the go.

While in a battle, Forrest runs as fast as he could to get away, and once he was by himself he realised that he had left Bubba, so he runs back to try and find him. And every time he went back he found someone else that he had to carry to safety. And he found Lieutenant Dan, who wanted to be left there so he could die with his platoon but Forrest took him to safety. And on the last trip before the aircrafts were to bomb the area Forrest finds Bubba and just in time he gets Bubba to safety. Unfortunately, Bubba was shot and he dies next to the river in Vietnam, before he dies, he says that he wanted to go home.

During that battle Forrest got shot in the “butt-tox” and he is on leave from the war and Dan is on leave because he lost his legs. Forrest begins to play ping-pong; he was so addicted he played in his sleep. Forrest gets the congressional metal of honour, for his bravery. Then Lieutenant Dan is sent home and then Forrest is also sent home.

Forrest meets President Lyndon B. Johnson and he goes to a peace rally where he is reunited with Jenny. And when he is with Jenny they go to a black panther meeting because Jenny is a hippy. But Jenny leaves to California and Forrest gives her his metal of honour because, “I only got it because I did what you said.”

Because Forrest is so good at ping-pong he is invited to join the All-American team, and he meets John Lennon and President Nixon because of it. While meeting President Nixon, Forrest stays at the Watergate hotel and shortly after that Nixon resigns.

Forrest is discharged from the army and he goes home and finds out that he has received a 25,000 dollar endorsement check. He uses the check to get a shrimping boat and he to visit Bubbas mom. He names the boat Jenny and Dan joins Forrest crew, a short while after there is a hurricane and the whole shrimping community is destroyed except for the Jenny. After that they began to get a lot of shrimp.

President Ford escapes possible assassination after he is shot, while in New York. Forrest doesn’t go back to shrimping again he instead mows football fields and, he never had to worry about money again. Since Dan invested in the Apple company. And even though Bubba was dead he gave some of the money he earned to Bu
